Kathmandu Metropolitan Municipality and Manavsewa Ashram Partner to Support Road-Dependent Individuals

KATHMANDU – The Kathmandu Metropolitan Municipality (KMM) has formalized a partnership with Manavsewa Ashram to enhance the rescue, care, and rehabilitation of road-dependent and homeless individuals. The collaboration, effective until 2083 BS (2026/27 AD), aims to make public spaces in the city safer and more humane for everyone.

The agreement was signed on Wednesday by Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol, Chief Administrative Officer Saroj Guragain, Social Development Department Chief Samiksha Niraula, and Ashram Joint Treasurer Sumira Lama

Key Provisions of the Agreement:

• Funding and Logistics: KMM has allocated Rs. 1 crore (10 million NPR) to support the rescue operations, healthcare, rehabilitation, and family reunification of homeless individuals. These funds will also help cover the Ashram’s house rent and administrative costs.

• Nightly Rescue Operations: In collaboration with KMM Police, Ashram representatives will conduct rescue operations twice a week, from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

• Comprehensive Care: The Ashram will provide rescued individuals with safe shelter, medical care, nutrition packages tailored to specific age groups, and long-term rehabilitation.

• Documentation and Security: Detailed records, including photographs and physical descriptions of each rescued individual, will be shared with the Kathmandu Metropolitan Municipality and the local police station for transparency and tracking.

• Family Reunification: A key goal of the partnership is to rehabilitate individuals and reunite them with their families whenever possible.

“Adequate support for humane management is essential for the dignity of those living on the streets,” said Deputy Mayor Dangol. “This collaboration ensures that individuals in vulnerable conditions receive immediate care and long-term support to reintegrate into society.”
